Mrs. Joyce Valeria Downs, 78 of Blountsville, Alabama, was born on September 9, 1946, to George and Thelma Hart Yancey and passed away on June 9, 2025, at St. Vincent's East Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama.  She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Thomas Yancey and Beecher Yancey; and her sisters, Lilma Adams, Clara Latham, and Ledora Morris.

Valeria is survived by her husband, Benny Downs; her daughter and son-in-law, Shelly and Chris Upton; her grandson, Hudson Thomas; her step grandson, Knox Upton; her siblings, Gertha Lynn, Roberta White, and Jim Yancey; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Matt Stover and Norman Suddath will conduct the Funeral Service on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at 11:00 am at Bethel Baptist Church in Snead, Alabama.  Interment will follow at Berry-Brookshire Cemetery in Guntersville, Alabama.  Mrs. Downs will Lie-in-repose at Bethel Baptist Church on Thursday from 10:00 am until service time.  The family will receive friends, at Snead Funeral Home, on Wednesday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

Josh Latham, Jason Latham, Wayne Latham, Graig Reynolds, Chris Upton, and Steve Yancey have been asked to serve as Pallbearers.
