Mr. Tommy Lane Pettit, age 79 of The Brooksville Community, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at St. Vincent's East Hospital.

He was survived by his wife of 60 years - Glenda Pettit of The Brooksville Community; his children - Lane Pettit (Jane) of The Brooksville Community, Brian Pettit (Karen) of The Brooksville Community, and Renae Jones (Greg) of The Brooksville Community; his grandchildren - Jamie Pettit (Brianna), Meagan Connell (David), Cody Pettit (Kaitlyn), Abbigail Pettit, Brady Pettit, Victoria Todd (Ian), and Weston Jones; his great grandchildren - Cole Connell, Connor Connell, Kaylee Pettit, Ella Pettit, Brantley Pettit, Kaiden Williams, Abe Garcia-Martinez, Ava Garcia-Martinez, and Presleigh Pettit; his sister - Jan Bodine (Lloyd) of The Brooksville Community; his nephew - Jason Bodine; his niece - Elaine Flack (Steve); and his great nephew - Wilson Walker.

This obituary shares the life of a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and businessman, Tommy Pettit. Tommy Lane Pettit was born on June 14th, 1940 at his home in Brooksville, Alabama. Tommy grew up in Brooksville where he attended Brooksville Baptist Church. For Tommy Pettit, working hard came naturally as a young man who worked on his family farm. Tommy attended J.B. Pennington High School where he was heavily involved in FFA and anything related to agriculture. He met the love of his life, Glenda June Pettit. The two dated for one and a half years then married on July 17, 1959. Tommy and Glenda also attended Brooksville Baptist Church where they would raise their future children and where Tommy was a Deacon.

Tommy and Glenda had two children (Lane and Brian) before becoming entrepreneurs when they decided to open "Pettit Catfish Farm" in 1970. Later on, their third and final child, Renae was born in which completed the Pettit family.

In 1976 "Pettit Farm Supply" was established and was opened for much business for over 30 years. It was all hands on deck during those years. Kids, grandkids, siblings and anyone who wanted to lend a hand helped move the business forward.

Tommy was strictly business but had a sense of humor as well. He was dry and at times was very comical. Tommy was witty and big hearted in his own way.

Tommy Pettit was a true business man. He was creative in his entrepreneurial skills. At the farm supply he sold various items of in order to move the family business forward.

His business was set apart by selling a variety of animals. Such as: Cattle, hogs, rabbits, deer, and fish were among these animal groups but Tommy especially enjoyed selling various types of birds and poultry such as geese, peacocks, turkeys, guineas, chickens etc.

Early in the business Tommy even sold firearms. It's safe to say that Tommy would try anything once and maybe twice if it brought in an income. Tommy would give you the shirt off his back if he didn't sell it first haha

Tommy enjoyed riding his gator in the pasture, checking his cattle, watching for deer, feeding the fish and almost anything outdoors. In his early years he even hunted small game. Tommy was a gardener and did well growing various crops.

Tommy was studious when it came to home remedies. He definitely did his research and applied his knowledge to everyday living. However, on the flip side he was a connoisseur of all things sugary and sweet. He especially loved double decker oatmeal cream pies and lemon ice box pie. He had a major sweet tooth (teeth).

There are countless untold stories about Tommy Pettit throughout his 79 years. Many of which family, friends, neighbors, and customers will keep in their hearts for years to come.

Mr. Pettit is preceded in death by his parents - Wilson and Hazel (Vaughan) Pettit; and his grandparents - James Foil Vaughan and Nora Vaughan.

Brother Curtis Alexander and Brother Dennis Martin will conduct the Funeral Service on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 12 (noon) at Brooksville Baptist Church.  Interment will follow in Brooksville Baptist Church Cemetery.  Mr. Pettit will Lie-In-Repose, at Snead Funeral Home, Friday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM and Saturday, at Brooksville Baptist Church, from 10:00 AM until Funeral Time.

Pallbearers will be - Jamie Pettit, Cody Pettit, Brady Pettit, Weston Jones, Ian Todd and David Connell.
