Mr. Sherman Arnold Smith, age 87 of Alpine, Alabama formerly of Horton, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2015 at his residence.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife Parrie Lee Simpson Smith of Alpine, Alabama; his children Barbara Van Wagner of Horton, Buford & Elaine Smith of Fayetteville, Hubert & Lesley Smith of Wadley, and Jackie & Connie Smith of Alpine; his grandchildren Roger & Susan Van Wagner, Debra & Tony Taylor, Teresa & Allen Entriken, J.d. & Wendy Van Wagner, Angela & Teddy Tyler, Wendy & Al Moncrief, Ronald & Jennifer Smith, Rowdy & Lindsey Smith, Brandon & Heather Howard, Jamie & Chuck Wesson, Eric & Jessica Miller, Angie & Chris Harmon, and Jacob Smith. He is also survived by 30 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.

Sherman is preceded in death by his great grandson William Gage Smith; son-in-law James Van Wagner; parents Willie & Eva Daniel Smith; and siblings Douglas Smith, Virgil Smith, Felton Smith, and Jeanette Hill.

Brother Cary Simpson will conduct the 2:00pm funeral service on Sunday, January 4, 2015 at the Chapel of Snead Funeral Home. Interment will follow at High Point Cemetery. Mr. Smith will lie in state at Snead Funeral Home on Saturday from 6:00pm until 8:00pm and Sunday from 12(noon) until funeral time.

Pallbearers will be Rowdy Smith, Ronald Smith, Keith Jackson, Payton Wesson, T.J. Tyler, and Eric Miller.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Johnny Smith and Brandon Howard.
