Robert Wayne Pankey, Jr

Wayne Pankey, Jr., born on August 31, 1970, and sadly passing away on April 12, 2026, was a beacon of joy, warmth, and community spirit who profoundly touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him. Known for his outgoing nature and his heart that embraced all around him, Wayne was a man whose passions and laughter filled every room and field he graced.

Wayne loved the simple pleasures of life: farming the land that kept him grounded, the quiet concentration of playing pool, and the endless beauty of the outdoors where he felt most himself. His genuine love for fishing and spending time with children added a special light to his days. He was a man of corny jokes that could lighten any mood, a sports lover whose enthusiasm for the Auburn Tigers and racing was contagious. He was also a proud member of the American Legion, exemplifying his dedication to service and camaraderie.

Wayne’s family and friends were at the very center of his world. He is survived by his beloved wife, Chasity Pankey, whose love was the foundation of his life. Together, they raised a wonderful family, including his sons Cody Pankey (Ashley), Cody Thomason, Blake Thomason(Leith), and daughters Erika Thomason and Kelley Johnson(Nik). His heart was especially warmed by his special grandson, Blaine Thomason Jones. Wayne’s roots ran deep through his loving parents, Robert Wayne Pankey, Sr. and Gloria Kirby Wade, his step-mother, Shan B. Pankey and his siblings Sandra Martin (Darryl), Laura Letson, and Terry Pankey (Georgia), among many aunts, uncles, grandchildren, and the honorary aunt Sherry Nelson. Each of these relationships was cherished and reminded all who knew him of his generous spirit and steadfast loyalty. Wayne is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Kaitlyn Letson, Skye Letson, Madison Letson, A.J. Letson, Jaxson Letson, Wyatt Letson, Michael Martin, Brittany Adcock, and C.J. Martin. Also surviving Wayne is his special friend, Buddy Smith.

Those who knew Wayne will remember his zest for life and his capacity to make everyone feel included and valued. The legacy he leaves behind is one of kindness, laughter, and an adventurous spirit that never ceased to inspire. His presence was a gift to his community and family alike, a source of comfort and endless stories that will be passed down through generations.

Honorary pallbearers will be Grady Bonds and David Burdett.

Wayne’s absence will be profoundly felt, yet the echoes of his laughter, the wisdom of his jokes, and the strength of his love will forever surround his family and friends. He was not only a cherished husband, father, son, brother, and friend but also a vibrant soul who lived fully, loved deeply, and left an indelible mark on all who were lucky to share in his journey.
