Huffstutler
January 11, 1941 – December 12, 2019
ODIS EDWARD HUFFSTUTLER, aged 78, passed away the morning of December 12, 2019 at his home just south of Snead, AL, in the presence of his wife and children. A native of this area, Mr. Huffstutler was a well-loved and respected member of the Susan Moore community. He is preceded by his parents, the late Ersie A. Huffstutler and Evelyn Alene Jackson. Mr. Huffstutler is survived by his wife, Anne Sharon King, daughter of the late Eldridge C. King and Annie Lenora Wood, his son, Bryan Edward, daughter Rebecca Ann Tibbs, son-in-law Drew Tibbs, grandsons Jonah and Jay Tibbs, siblings Yvonne Banes, Gene & Marie Earwood, Larry & Phillis Huffstutler, Randal & Joy Huffstutler, Norman & Tonya Huffstutler, Bud & Kathy Jones.
Following graduation from Susan Moore High School in 1959, Odis attended Lee College, during which time he decided it was time to settle down. This decision came one night at a New Year's Eve singing of 1959 when he was smitten with an affection for Anne Sharon. They were married in September of 1961. Shortly thereafter, Odis began work at Goodyear in Gadsden and determined to complete his college degree while working there. He graduated from Jacksonville State University in 1969 with a B.S. in Business Administration. In the late summer of 1970 he moved his family from Gadsden, AL back to the Susan Moore community. For many years Odis was music minister at Mt. Zion Church of God, where he also taught Sunday school. Odis retired from Goodyear in 1996 with 36 years of service and tens of thousands of miles on his red VW Beetle. After retirement he achieved a Master Gardener certification and also became a member of the Blount County Wild Flower Association. Together with his wife, he created beautiful gardens at their home. For nearly 50 years he and Sharon have tended Whippoorwill Farm with great joy and satisfaction. He and Sharon also had a great passion for travel and visited numerous countries together. For the last eight years they have been members of Briarwood Presbyterian Church.
Odis Huffstutler was a man who loved to talk about his relationship with Christ. He was passionate about Holy Scripture and was willing to talk for hours about Christianity with anyone with ears to hear. This was apparent in his teaching, mentoring, prayer time, social events, work ethic, love for his family, indeed, in every aspect of his life. Anyone who knows Odis Huffstutler knows he is waiting for his loved ones on the other side of this life.
