August 3, 1945 – July 14, 2017
Michael Adam Carpick, Jr., passed away on Friday, July 14, 2017 at the age of 71. He was an Air Force veteran who served as a medic during the Vietnam War and also served on President Kennedy's medical detail at Andrews AFB. After leaving the Air Force, he dedicated his life to his family and worked at the local firm Command Alkon for 20 years as an IT specialist. He was a model citizen that was heavily involved in progressive Birmingham politics until his death, livestreaming events and spreading his message on the internet. He was a member of the ACLU, the Rainbow Push Coalition, and fought for his community by helping register voters and spreading awareness about progessive issues.
He was preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Michael Carpick Sr., and his beloved wife Beverly Ann Smeltzer.
He is survived by his daughters: Stephanie Lynn Smeltzer Chandiwala (Chris), Dawn Louise Palmer, and Michelle C Kenyon (Eric); his sons: Darrell Wade Smeltzer (Renee) and Michael Ian Post-Green (Thornton); his seven grandchildren: Amaan, Aneesa, Alexa, Peyton, Chad, Kristen, and John; and his three great grandchildren: Zendaya, Laila, and Keaghan.
Graveside Funeral Services with Military Honors will be conducted Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at 10:00 am, with Snead Funeral Home Directing, at Currie – Jefferson Memorial Gardens South, 2701 John Hawkins Parkway, Hoover, AL 35244.
