Obituary

Mr. Jerrel Max Ivey passed away on Friday, September 12, 2014 at his residence in Snead, Alabama. He was 77 years old.

Born to humble farmers, the soil was always in Max's blood. He met his future wife while planting corn. He went to A & P in Birmingham to work in produce and rose to manage his own store. He spent over 50 years in the grocery business. Max could not handle retirement very well and returned to farming and farm equipment. Throughout his adult life Max had a passionate love for Bethel Baptist Church where he sang gospel music and served as a Deacon until he retired. Max was blessed to have a devoted wife of 59 years, Jeanette Greer Ivey. She graciously gave her last ounce of energy taking care of him in the final years and moments of his life. Max has now found that peace that passes all understanding.

Max is survived by his wife Jeanette Greer Ivey of Snead, his children Jerrel Edward Ivey of Montgomery and Pamela Jean Ivey Boatwright (Mark) of Illinois, his grandchildren Danielle Ivey, Parker Ivey, LaShae Boatwright, and Nash Boatwright. He is also survived by his siblings Tom Ivey (Rose) of Birmingham and JoAnn Campbell of Snead.

Mr. Ivey is preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Lorene Brannon Ivey.

Brother Gary Schultz will conduct the 3pm funeral service on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at Bethel Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Bethel Cemetery. Mr. Ivey will lie in state at Snead Funeral Home on Saturday from 6:00pm until 8:00pm. The family has requested no visitation on Sunday.

Pallbearers will be Parker Ivey, Nash Boatwright, Mark Boatwright, Tom Ivey, Billie Boatwright, Lelton Ridgeway, Kenneth Handley, and Tommy Beland.
