Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Martha Lou Nickels Carson on March 21, 2024 at her beloved home surrounded by family. Martha Lou Nickels Carson was born on November 06,1934

Martha married the love of her life and together they had two sons, Dwight and Dwayne. Martha was a seamstress at Blue Bell Sewing Plant & Altoona Sportswear. Martha enjoyed traveling the United States by motorcycle with family and friends, they enjoyed many trips and traveled to many states. She enjoyed cleaning, cooking, gardening, canning, sewing and crocheting. Martha had many friends and special neighbors in the Valley, and in her later years valued getting to talk to them almost daily by phone.

She was a member of New Home Baptist Church in Oneonta.

She is survived by her two sons, Dwight Carson, Dwayne Carson (Sheila). Grandchildren, Neil Putman, Phillip Carson (Christina), Dustin Carson, and Brooke Little (Wesley).

She had two great grandchildren, who were the light of her life - Karsyn Little and Landon Carson. She is survived by her loving sister, Juanita Baggett, many special neices and nephews, and chosen daughter Elaine Gargus.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ocie Nickels. Her loving mother, Florene Wood Nickels.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carlton Carson. Sisters, Della Henry, Catherine Myers, and Brother Joseph Nickels.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Snead Funeral Home. Visitation will will be from 12:00 PM until Funeral Time. A private family service will be held at Mt. Moriah Cemetery.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Compassus Hospice of Rainbow City. Rachel, James, Amber, Jeff, and Shakara- you all were wonderful and we couldn't have been more honored to have you guide us and provide the most amazing care. Lastly, a special thank you to the ladies who were caregivers but more like family, Ms. Beverly Lybrand and Mrs. Carol Smith. Our family was so honored and blessed to have you to care for our dear Mother and Grandmother.
