Laura Ann Smart, born March 27, 1943, went home to be with the Lord on May 30, 2026, at Riverview Hospital in Gadsden.
Mrs. Smart was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and cherished member of her community. She lived a rich life marked by love, devotion and joy, leaving behind a legacy that will always be treasured by all who knew her, especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will always be “Mawmaw Ann” to most.
She was married to the love of her life, Bobby Cecil Smart, for 52 years. Her love for her family and friends was evident in the way she cared for others. She was a true caretaker, never asking for anything in return, and was a mother figure to many with welcoming arms. Mrs.Smart enjoyed playing the piano, singing, quilting, tending to her flowers, cooking pecan pies, working on the farm alongside Bobby, watching westerns and wrestling, and chasing every red or blue light she saw or heard. She found joy in the simple things, and she had a way of making those around her feel loved, cared for and at home.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandy McBrayer (Randy); sons, Bobby Ray Smart (Lori), and Tom Hudgins (Audra); grandchildren, Heather Holyfield (Clint), Bobby J. Smart (Jamie), Hunter McBrayer (Brooke), Clint Collins (Mandie), Shawn Collins, Tommy Hudgins, Scotty Hudgins, Rick Hudgins (Christine), and Marcus Hudgins; and a host of great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Ollie Fountain (Gail), David Fountain (Cindy), Timmy Fountain (Sherri), Barbara Yarbrough and Violet Holmes.
She is now rejoicing in heaven alongside her husband, Bobby C. Smart; her parents, Rev. L.O. Fountain and Leafer Fountain; sisters, Euline Pugh (Jasper) and Marlou Fountain; brothers, Jimmy Fountain, Lowell Fountain (Bonnie) and Marlin Fountain; and brother-in-laws, Clinton Yarbrough and Stevie Holmes.
Pallbearers will be Brantley Luke Collins, Clint Collins, Clint Holyfield, Tommy Hudgins, Asher Holyfield, Scotty Hudgins. Honorary pallbearers will be Cora Smart, Parker Collins, Adison Holyfield, Atticus Holyfield, Grant McBrayer, Mason McBrayer, Bobby J. Smart, Noah Smart, Marcus Hudgins, Dansby Collins, and Eli Collins.
Ann’s life was a blessing to her family, and her memory will continue to live on in the stories they tell, the moments they share, the hymns they sing and the love she poured into each of them.
The family will welcome friends for visitation at Snead Funeral Home, on June 2, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and again on June 3, from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM on June 3 at the same location. Burial will take place at High Mound Cemetery at 3:00 PM.
As we say farewell to Laura Ann Smart, we hold dear the indelible mark she made through her unwavering love, her joyful spirit, and her commitment to family and community. Her life was a precious gift that nurtured and enriched those around her, and her memory will forever shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her. Rest in peace, Mawmaw Ann—you will be deeply missed but always lovingly remembered.
