Joyce Holcomb

Joyce Holcomb, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and cherished member of the Snead community, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2026, in Altoona. Born on April 4, 1941, Joyce’s life was a tapestry woven with love, joy, and the stories she so dearly loved to share.

Joyce was a woman who found happiness in the simple pleasures of life—talking and telling stories, cooking, baking, and sewing were daily expressions of her nurturing spirit. She delighted in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, often engaging them in lively games of cards and dominos. A true coffee lover and wrestling enthusiast, Joyce brought warmth and laughter into every room she entered. Her family meant everything to her, and she showed that love in countless ways throughout her life.

She is survived by her devoted son Michael Holcomb and his wife Karon; her cherished grandchildren Holly Smitherman and her husband Paul, and Emily West and her husband Josh; and her adored great-grandchildren Blake, Tyler, and Jackson Smitherman, as well as Jarrett, Matthew, and Brooklyn West. Joyce also leaves behind her sister Melissa Matthews, brothers Danny Laughlin (and his wife Linda) and Larry Laughlin, and many nieces and nephews who treasure her memory deeply.

Joyce was preceded in death by her devoted husband Raymond Holcomb; her daughter Deborah Holcomb; her loving parents Edward A. and Vernice Powell; her sister Alene Baas; her brother Charles Powell; and sister Doris Fant. Their memories live on in her heart and in the stories she shared so lovingly.

The family welcomes all who wish to pay their respects to join the visitation at Snead Funeral Home, on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m., with burial to take place at Mt. Carmel Cemetery on Mount Carmel Road, beginning at 12:00 p.m.

Honored pallbearers include Paul Smitherman, Josh West, Johnny Matthews, Chris Laughlin, Ray Laughlin, and Blake Smitherman, who carry forward Joyce’s legacy of love, kindness, and strength.

In the quiet moments when we remember Joyce, we are reminded of a life beautifully lived—a life that touched the hearts of everyone who knew her. Her stories, her laughter, and her unwavering love will remain a guiding light for her family and friends forever. Though she has departed from this world, her spirit remains vividly alive in the hearts of those who loved her most. Joyce Holcomb’s legacy is one of deep connection, enduring love, and the joy found in the company of family. She will be deeply missed and warmly remembered.
