Funeral Service for Mr. James E. 'Jim' Miller will be Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 1:00 PM at The Chapel of The Snead Funeral Home. Brother Randy Robinette officiating. Interment will follow at Antioch Church of Christ Cemetery. Mr. Miller will Lie-In-Repose, at Snead Funeral Home, Saturday from 11:00 AM until Funeral Time.
Mr. Miller passed from this earthly life Monday, January 24, 2022. He was born to John W. and Mary Lou Miller on March 27, 1941. His parents preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 59 years – Doris Brooks Miller; sons – James Kelly Miller of Stauton, VA and John Michael Miller (Christine) of Reston, VA; grandson – Brooks T. Miller of Portland, ME; sisters – Ann Miller Russell of Huntsville, AL and Donna Miller Duke (Gary); as well as a host of extended family and friends.
He graduated from the University of Florida with a BSF in 1965 and accepted a position with Auburn University on an experiment station in Fayette, AL. In 1966 he went back to Florida to work on a MSF and graduated in 1967. He accepted a position with the University of Arkansas, Extension Service, Little Rock. He worked there for 11 years and moved his family to Fairfax, VA where he accepted a position as Program Leader for Wildlife and Fisheries in Extension in the Agriculture Department. He retired from there in 2001. He accepted a position with Mississippi State University and retired again in 2005. At that time he became Professor Emeritus.
After his retirement he continued to hold workshops for Conservation Leaders for Tomorrow (CLFT) across the country. He enjoyed working with and mentoring young people.
He received numerous awards in his career. The most prestigious being the Aldo Leapold Memorial Award a Lifetime Achievement Award from the California Vertebrate Pest Management.
He served as President of the National Wildlife Society and was on the board of the National Wild Turkey Federation.
He was a man of God and believed in His word. He loved this beautiful earth that God gave us to enjoy. One of his great joys was to see the sunrise and the sunsets. We will miss him terribly…
