Guy Edward Cleveland, 87 of Horton, Alabama, passed away August 18, 2015 at home surrounded by his family. Born in Horton to the late Fred and Lila Ivey Cleveland, Mr. Cleveland lived most of his life in Horton, Alabama, Gainesville, Florida, and Stone Mountain, Georgia.
Mr. Cleveland was a member of Mt. Zion Church of God. He was a man that loved his family very much and was very proud of his five children, 30 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren. His wife of 59 years, Annie Ruth Painter Cleveland preceded him in death as did his two sons, Guy Darrell Cleveland and Jonah Edward Cleveland. He is survived by his three daughters and sons-in-law: Linda and Dan Godwin and Hettie and John Coffield of Horton, Alabama and Cindy and Phil Levine of Washington Township, Ohio and two daughters in law: Carla Cleveland of Horton, Alabama and Terrie Cleveland of Panama City, Florida.
Mr. Cleveland had eight siblings and was preceded in death by Jean Bohannon, Meredith Odom, Earl Cleveland, Lloyd Cleveland, and Jimmy Cleveland. He is survived by siblings Rebecca Van Sandt, Joan Croft, and brother and sister-in-law Charles and Helen Cleveland. In addition, he is survived by in-laws Barbara Cleveland, Judy Cleveland, Abe & Etoile Painter, Curtis Horton, Ladora Painter, Curt & Barbara Painter, and Velma Sue Meade along with many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Cleveland is a Veteran of the United States Army and served in Korea as a Medic from 1946 to 1947. After Mr. Cleveland served his country, he was a farmer and then a commercial builder.
In his later years Mr. Cleveland enjoyed going to the Snead Senior Citizens Center every day to play Rook and he will be greatly missed by his friends. Because of the joy he found at the Center, a memorial donation made to the Snead Senior Citizens Center, 268 Richman Dr., Altoona, AL 35952 in his name would help to insure that the services this Center provides for seniors in the community can continue.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, August 21st from 5:30pm until 8:00pm and Saturday from 2:00pm to 3:00pm at the Price-Snead Funeral Home, 170 Richman Drive, Snead, Alabama 35952. A celebration of Mr. Cleveland's life will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 4:00pm at Mt. Zion Church of God, 40985 State Hwy 75, Altoona, AL 35952 with burial to follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Horton.
Josh Coffield, Patrick Coffield, Zach Godwin, John Williams, Ryan Hearn, Matthew Cleveland, Adam Cleveland, and Jonah Cleveland will serve as pallbearers.
