Obituary

Mr. Gary Monroe Blackwood, age 62 of Marion, Arkansas, formally of Blount County Alabama, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

Mr. Blackwood is survived by his wife: Helen Blackwood of Marion, AR.; his children: Michael Blackwood of Arkansas, and Jeremy Blackwood of Oklahoma; his 3 granchildren; his siblings: Paul Blackwood of Boaz, AL., Rick and Tonya Speakman of New Mexico, Arlene and James Trimm of Hoover, AL., Ruth and Charles Holt of Altoona, AL., Emma Parrish of Altoona, AL., Ann and Butch Shumate of Huntsville, AL., and Betty and Jeff Brooks of Altoona, AL.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his first wife: Carolyn Clements Blackwood; his second wife: Phyllis Blackwood; his parents: James Monroe and Mary Evelyn (Stricklin) Blackwood; and his siblings: James Willie Blackwood and Kenneth Robert Speakman.

Brother Don Garrison will conduct the funeral service at 11:00am on Friday, August 14, 2015 at the Chapel of the Price-Snead Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Hood Cemetery. Mr. Blackwood will lie in state at Snead Funeral Home on Friday from 9:00am until funeral time.

Jake Shumate, Ryan Brooks, Colman Teague, Bobby Garrison, John Earl Smith, and Jarrod Speakman will be pallbearers.

Sammy Way and Bruce Causey will stand in as Honorary Pallbearers.

The family will have private time on Friday before the public arrives and during that time two of Mr. Blackwoods favorite songs will be played for the family, which include, "Big Big John" by Jimmy Dean and "Silver Wings" by Myrle Haggard.

The family has chosen three wonderful songs to honor Mr. Blackwood and the service will begin with, "Your Cries Have Awoken The Master" by the Isaacs. Then Brother Don Garrison will say a prayer and read the obituary. Next, we will play, "Wind Beneath My Wings" by Bette Midler. Brother Don Garrison will then get up and read scripture from The Holy Bible and bring forth a message from the Holy Spirit. We will conclude the service with, "Amazing Grace" by Chirs Tomlin. Finally, we will take Mr. Blackwood, in a funeral procession, to his final place of rest, on this earth, to Hood Cemetery.
