Mrs. Ella Mae Snead, 86, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at her home in Gardendale, Alabama following a long battle with kidney disease. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Snead was born at home in McLarty, Alabama on February 20, 1936 to her parents, Aubrey and Audrey Wallace. She graduated from Susan Moore High School in 1952 and attended Alverson-Draughon Business College in Birmingham. She worked for 26 years at Susan Moore High School as the secretary and bookkeeper, but served many roles and was beloved by all. She was a longtime member of Snead First United Methodist Church where she spent many years teaching Sunday School, directing the youth group, and serving on various committees.

Mrs. Snead's greatest love was her family. She met the love of her life, Wayne Snead, at age 14 and they married in September of 1952 after graduating high school. They have one daughter, Cindy Snead Gibbs, born in 1957. She is survived by Wayne, Cindy (Wesley), granddaughter Whitney Gibbs Sutton (Jacob), great-granddaughters Bailey and Olivia Sutton, one brother Roger Wallace (Paula) and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will hold visitation at Snead Funeral Home Friday, May 6, 2022 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Snead First United Methodist Church at 11:00 am, with visitation beginning at 10:00. Brother Berry Faust will officiate. Entombment will be at Blount Memory Gardens in Oneonta following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family has set up a classroom grant to be awarded to Susan Moore School in memory of Ella Mae Snead. Donations can be sent to Blount County Education Foundation at P.O.
