Obituary

Daniel Coy Williams (D.C., Dicee, Willie) of the McLarty Community was a hardworking, loving, Christian, husband, and father. He was born in Marshall County to P.T. Williams, Sr. and Essie Modine Hathorn Williams Foshee Rasco (both deceased prior to their son) on January 21,1936 but, grew up in the Wynnville Community of Blount County.  D.C. went to his Heavenly Home at Grandview Medical Center on August 25, 2020. He was one of the first high school students to ever serve as a bus driver for Blount County Schools as a junior at Susan Moore.  He always worked on the farm and hired out as a young boy plowing mules and hauling hay.  At 11-12 years of age, he borrowed money and planted his own cotton crop.  In high school, he had a dairy cow, Hazel, that won the Blount County Fair and State Fair for milk production as Grand Champion. He graduated as a member of the Susan Moore High School Class of 1955.  Following graduation, he worked at Blue Bell in Oneonta.  Later, he went to Birmingham and worked at Hayes, Dixie Freight, and settled in with Sunshine Biscuits where he worked as a delivery truck driver, warehouse director, and became a top salesman for them in north Alabama, Mississippi, and Georgia.  At the end of thirty years with Sunshine Biscuits, he was a bakery door account manager for Piggly Wiggly and Mitchell Groceries.

Married to Jemay Morton Williams for 64 years, he lost her 3 months ago. They had a love and commitment that lasted through life's ups and downs. He has mourned her passing and truly had a broken heart when she died. The couple are survived by their daughters, Dr. Anita Kay Williams Prickett (Bill) and Amy Rochelle Williams to whom he was a very devoted Dad. He has two step-grandsons, John Tyler Prickett and Kristopher Jason Prickett (Christina). P.T. Williams, Jr., brother, passed away several years ago.

He was a quiet Christian who worked as a Sunday School Superintendent and steward for Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. He served on various church committees. He is a member of Mount Zion Church of God but currently attended Day Break Church.  He loved the Lord foremost, but family and his country were very important to him.  He was a veteran of the Alabama National Guard as a Staff Sargent in the tank battalion and served as a flag bearer. He has told us of a trip to Fort Knox with General Clarence Rhea where he drove a tank on maneuvers with Sargent Elvis Presley. He has worked as a Blount County poll inspector and absentee vote election officer.
