Louie Dale Morton, also known by his friends as "LD", lifted up from his earthly home, and ascended into the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, April 22, 2021. Born on April 27, 1957, to Wanda and Louie Brice Morton, Dale's church membership was with Gardendale First Baptist.
Talented beyond his years, Dale, a self-trained computer techie, had avid interests in many activities and hobbies; among them, photography, travel, guitar, jazz music, blacksmithing, cooking, fishing, genealogy and many sports. In his youth, he was standout tackle on the 1974 SMHS Football Team under the leadership of Coach Larry Pod Patterson, Tom Boatman and Bruce McAfee. He and friends: Darrel Ellison (Pancho), Mike Maze and Ken Stevenson formed a rock band and played for school functions, while in high school.
Dale was well adapted to the world of work during his teen years. Early on, he picked cotton for Acton Gibbs, hauled hay for Tom Boatman and many others. In addition he worked summers at the Minnow Farms and worked for local bricklayers. In 1978, he began a career at Tractor and Equipment Company, where he served as the Service Clerk. His retirement party on May 15, 2019, at TEC was a milestone of an accomplished tract of service encompassing 42 years.
Dale, stood on the shoulders of a great many strong family members who went on before him: His dad, Louie Brice Morton; maternal grandmother, Julia Walls; and paternal grandparents, Barcie and Bass Morton.
Surviving family members include: wife, Sue Morton; three children: Jerri (Craig) Summerford, Jennifer Morton, and Billy Morton; Mother, Wanda Morton; four grandchildren: Dylan Summerford, Faith (Kaleb) Jones, Reagan Morton; siblings: Danny (Malinda) Morton and Teresa (Jerome) Owens; one niece Jessie (Jeremy) Barker; three nephews: Jordan (Brittany) Owens, Jonathan (Candace) Owens, Lee Morton and three great nieces: Calleigh Barker, Kennadie Barker and Halle Owens, Great Nephews: Raylan Owens and Easton Owens.
Funeral services will be Sunday, April 25, 2021, from Snead Funeral Chapel. Visitation will begin at 10:30 with funeral set for 2:00pm, burial following at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, McLarty. Attending Clergy: Brother Robbie Burtram will deliver the message. Eulogy: Jeremy Barker and Graveside Service: Brother Johnny Allred. Pall bearers: Danny Morton, Lee Morton, Jerome Owens, Jordan Owens, Jonathan Owens, Craig Summerford and Kaleb Jones.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Foundation or a charity of your choice.
