Obituary
Mr. Billy Ray Holmes passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at his residence in Horton, AL.. He was 72 years old.
Mr. Holmes is a Veteran of The United States Army. He was a collector and loved to build many different things. He loved his family and friends and will be missed by all that knew him. Go rest high on your mountain, Billy. One day you will be reunited with your christian family.
Billy is survived by his wife: Jimmie Fay Holmes of Horton, AL.; his children: Howard Jay & Shelia Holmes of Straight Mountain, AL., Cathy Holmes of Straight Mountain, AL., Jeff Staton of South Alabama, Jennifer Shawn Moore of Florida, Lynn Denny of Arab, AL., and Leann Staton of Cuba, AL.; 8 Grandchildren; 6 Great Grandchildren; and his sister: Faye Holmes Foster of Susan Moore, AL.
He is predeceased in death by his first wife: Sally Brown Holmes; his son: Ray Holmes; and his parents: A.Q. & Maggie Ann (Fortenberry) Holmes.
Don Garrison will conduct the 11am funeral service on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at the Chapel of Snead Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Blount Memory Gardens. Mr. Holmes will lie in state at Snead Funeral Home on Friday from 5:30pm until 8:00pm and Saturday from 8:00am until funeral time.
Kyle Brooks, Tyler Brooks, Christopher Holmes, Mickie D'Anglo, Sam Denny, and Patrick Holmes will serve as Pallbearers.
Bobby Garrison, Tony Bailey, and Chris Brooks will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
The service will include the reading of the Obituary, Eulogy of a life well lived, and a God given message. The family has chosen 4 beautiful songs to play, which include, "Amazing Grace" played with bag pipes, "Go Rest High On That Mountain", "Beulah Land", and "How Great Thou Art". The casket will be draped half couch with the American Flag so people can pay their respects during visitation. Just before the service begins the casket will be closed and the American Flag will be draped full couch. The United States Honor Guard will be at the graveside to render military honors. Then Mr. Holmes will be laid to rest until the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
