Mr. W.A. "Bill" Kornegay, age 90 of The Friday's Crossing Community of Susan Moore, AL., passed away Sunday, August 5, 2018 at Diversicare in Oneonta, AL.

Mr. Kornegay was known by everyone for whistling "Happy Birthday" and giving $1 bills.  He retired as an employee of Blount County where he was a foreman for 8 years and a County Commissioner for 12 years. Mr. Kornegay also served in The United States Air Force and The United States Army.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law – Gwenda and Buford Maltbie of Oneonta, AL., his son and daughter-in-law – Jimmy and Wanda Kornegay of the Berry Mountain Community, his son and daughter-in-law – Steve and Janet Kornegay of the Wilson Chapel Community of Susan Moore, AL., his daughter and son-in-law – Janice and Bruce Blakely of Oneonta, AL., his grandchildren – Sonya White, Shana Coover (Jeff), Brett Kornegay (Rachael), Kristi Randolph (John), Stephanie Kornegay, Suzanne McLendon (Luke), Bart Blakely (Kala), Adam Blakely, Cassie Stifflemire (Brandon), 11 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and sister – Louise Long of Snead, AL.

He is preceded in death by his wife – Wanda Sue Kornegay, parents – James Homer and Thelma Louise (Thompson) Kornegay, and his siblings – Bessie Ridgeway, Rufas Kornegay, Roscoe Kornegay, Jim Kornegay, Ann Thomas, Bobbie Debter, Bo Kornegay and John Wayne Kornegay.

Brother Joey Kirby will conduct the funeral service on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Mt. Zion Church of God, with Snead Funeral Home Directing.  Interment will follow at Blount Memory Gardens.  Mr. Kornegay will Lie In Repose, at the church, Wednesday from 12 (noon) until funeral time.

Pallbearers will be – Brett Kornegay, Bart Blakely, Adam Blakely, Luke McLendon, John Randolph, Jeff Coover, and Brandon Stifflemire.

Honorary pallbearers will be – Sonya White, Shane Coover, Kristi Randolph, Stephanie Kornegay, Suzanne McLendon, and Cassie Stifflemire.
