Betty Reynolds Snell Hendrix, age 71, passed from her earthly home at Golden Living Center in Oneonta, Alabama to be home with the Lord on June 20, 2013. She was of the Methodist Faith.
Born and raised in Decherd, Tennessee, Betty was the daughter of the late Harry Athel and Wilma Lucille (Neal) Snell, II. The only daughter to survive infancy, her grateful parents named her after the doctor that delivered her, the late Dr. Reynolds Fite.
In 1958, Betty married the late William "Jack" Hendrix. The couple was married almost forty nine years before Jack's death in 2007. Together they had seven children, twenty grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
For over 25 years, Jack and Betty were owners of Hendrix Garage in Snead. During that time she had been employed as the assistant lunchroom manager at Susan Moore High School and then at The Oneonta Senior's Center. After her children were grown, she began her own business, Aunt B's Emporium, formerly an antique store in Snead. Later in life she enjoyed being a caregiver to the late, Ms. Pat Hood.
Prior to her illness, Aunt "B", as she was known by, resided in Snead. She was involved in many community activities, including serving as President of The Susan Moore PTO, being elected to the Snead Town Council , where she was one of the founders of the Snead Town Picnic, and serving on various committees including many with the late Rep. Hinton Mitchem.
If there was a need, that is where you would find Betty – she was loving, caring, and generous to others. In 2005, Betty was honored for her good works to the community by being chosen as one to the three finalists for Blount county Citizen of the Year.
