Ms. Bess Franklin Latham passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at the age of 90.

Ms. Latham graduated Susan Moore High School in 1945 and went on to graduate Andrew Jackson University in Nashville, Tennessee where she earned her degree in Secretarial Science. She taught at Susan Moore High School for many years and worked in the banking business. Bess is a member of Gibbs Chapel United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School. She is a member if the Eastern Star of Clarence, a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 1573 of Guntersville. She was the first charter member of the auxiliary in Snead where she served as Chaplain for 30+ years as well as serving as Chaplain for Guntersville. She was a member of Mountain View Home Demonstration Club, served as Secretary and Historian for the State of Alabama, a member of Birmingham Historical Society, and a member of Country Classic Red Hats Society.

Ms. Latham is survived by her son Phillip Don Latham of Gibbs Chapel; daughter Beverly & Horace Mize of Gibbs Chapel; son Terry & Ann Latham of Gibbs Chapel; grandchildren Kimberly Ann Latham of Gibbs Chapel and Kevin Dewayne Latham of Snead; and siblings Betty & John Smallin of Texas and Sue Galencher of North Carolina.

Bess is preceded in death by her husband Klines Latham; parents Clifford & Berta Snead Franklin; and siblings Carl Franklin, Joseph Franklin, Louise Franklin Jones, and Adeline Franklin Brown.

Larry Walker and Jeff Self will conduct the 2pm funeral service on Monday, December 15, 2014 at the Chapel of Snead Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Gibbs Chapel Cemetery. Ms. Latham will lie in state at Snead Funeral Home on Monday from 12(noon) until funeral time.

Pallbearers will be Carthal Self, Mack Elrod, Verbon Mize, Kevin Latham, Johnny Rogers, and Tommy Latta.
