IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Benjamin Joseph
Dyar
December 21, 1936 – February 3, 2020
Mr. Benjamin Joseph Dyar, of The Mt. Hebron Community, went home to spend eternity with his Lord and Savior on Monday, February 3, 2020. He was 83.
Mr. Dyar was born and grew up in the Mt. Hebron community. He proudly served his country in The United States Navy in the mid 1950's, and shortly after his discharge married Regina Gail Starkey of Altoona, AL. They were married until her death in 1994. After her passing, Mr. Dyar moved to Franklin, TN to be with his son's family. The great joy in his life was ensuring his granddaughters knew exactly how much their PawPaw loved them. He became their personal chauffeur from daycare and school (with frequent stops for an icee or donut on the way home), the place to go for Sunday dinners after church, and a refuge where they could grab a snack, watch a movie or hear old stories. Once "his girls" left home and went off to college, they'd often receive a hand-written note in the mail hoping that they had a good week, with $10 or $20 stuck inside as a "little extra something". He was also known for spoiling the family pets, making extra bacon and eggs to ensure the dogs also had a good breakfast... PawPaw talked to pets and granddaughters in their own language. He was immensely loved, and will be tremendously missed.
Mr. Dyar is survived by his son and daughter-in-law – Ben and Kathy Dyar of Smith Lake, AL; his granddaughters – Sarah Dyar of Gallatin, TN and Ashlyn Dyar of Franklin, TN; and his siblings – David Dyar (Myra), Milton Dyar (Margaret), Thomas Dyar (Lavern), Judy Baker (Wayne), Mary Berry (Lance) and Jesse Dyar (Tencil). He is preceded in death by his wife (Regina Starkey Dyar), his parents (Elbert and Agnes Dyar), and siblings Floyd Dyar, Franklin Dyar, and Bobby Dyar.
The Family has elected cremation, and A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date. In Lieu of Flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Palliative Care unit at Birmingham VA Medical Center in Birmingham, AL using the following link https://www.pay.gov/public/form/start/50809435/ or by calling (877) 353-9791.
